What’s one of the primary causes of acne? Excess sebum

Sebum is the oily substance your body creates to help your skin stay properly hydrated. Your skin has approximately 2 million sebaceous glands, and the skin on your face has around 400-900 sebaceous glands per centimeter. Most are located along your hair follicles, and have a direct path to the surface of your skin.

Sebum is essential for healthy skin. It creates a protective barrier that prevents moisture loss, and it even has antibacterial and antioxidant properties. As it travels through your hair follicles to the surface of your skin, sebum combines with dead cells and debris. Sebum can begin to thicken and harden, resulting in clogged pores and acne.

Everyone produces more sebum during times of hormonal fluctuation, like puberty and pregnancy. But some people produce higher-than-average amounts of sebum, which increases the risk of acne.

AviClear works by suppressing sebum production

AviClear uses laser technology to reduce your body’s sebum production levels. Treatments deliver controlled beams of light into the deeper layers of your skin. The sebum present in your sebaceous glands absorbs that light energy and converts it into heat, which disrupts the glands and forces them to shrink.

After treatment, your sebaceous glands will still function, but they won’t be able to produce excess volumes of sebum. Your skin will still receive enough sebum to stay hydrated and healthy, but your pores won’t become clogged as easily.

The standard treatment protocol is a series of three sessions, each of which lasts around 30 minutes. While you might notice some sensations of warmth and tingling during treatment, there’s no pain and no downtime afterward.

AviClear is a good option for most people

There are a number of reasons to choose AviClear over other acne treatment options. For many people, prescription acne medication brings unwanted side effects and risks. AviClear works without any form of drug therapy.

While topical creams and ointments can sometimes help reduce acne breakouts, these products require you to adhere to a strict application schedule. With AviClear, you can achieve lasting results with only a few office visits, and there’s no need to worry about having the product on hand and applying it every day.

AviClear doesn’t make your skin more sensitive to light, so you can schedule your treatments during the summer and you won’t need to take special precautions to protect your skin from UV exposure (although daily sunscreen should always be part of your skin-care routine).

AviClear is suitable for all skin tones and works for people with mild, moderate, or even severe acne. It is not recommended for people under the age of 13, or those women who are pregnant.
